Willis Tower

The Willis tower is located in Chicago and is a towering office building. This building was renamed in 2009, but the original common name of this structure was the Sears tower. This building was built originally in 1973 and was considered the tallest building in the world for a couple of decades. The design of this building exhibits the common skyscraper architectural design complete with a steel framing system and glass front.  The tower also possesses two identifying antenna that are encased in a white tubular frame, and these operate in broadcasting various types of signals for the Chicago area. This building also contributes a wide impact on tourists due to the attraction of a sky deck. This sky deck is encased in glass allowing tourists to step “outside” the frame of the building to enjoy a scenic view at 103 stories from the ground. It is due to this wide attraction that I visited the building.

I visited this towering monument before 2009, so the sky deck was not available, but views from the same floor were extravagant. The perspective from the building was available on all four sides, and the site was breathtaking, offering views from one of the great lakes to the Wrigley Stadium. The most memorable moment of experiencing this type of architecture was the on the outside sidewalk of the building and looking up. Since I was younger, the side of the building seemed to go on for miles, and standing underneath, there was no view of the top of the structure.
