The Vanna Venturi House

The Vanna Venturi House is easily one of Robert Venturi’s most famous works. Built in 1964 in Pennsylvania for his mother, Vanna Venturi. This building is iconic for the postmodern architectural style. The fame of this building is not only due to the iconic design; it is also due to the bold statement against modernism style that was popular during that time. The entire design is more of a protest, or opposition piece than it is a building. Everything from the slanted roof to the grounded feeling of the squatty building is a stance against modernism and a push towards the future of architecture. The Venturi house shaped and pushed the architectural world into postmodernism, and that along with the unique style is why this building is so iconic in architectural history.robert-venturi-001
