This still standing structure was designed to accommodate one of the earliest and most influential leaders of Oklahoma City, Henry Overholser. The mansion was built in 1903 which was mostly surrounded by farmland, development coming in the future. The mansion is a French Chateau styled home, and was created by W.S. Matthews, an architect educated at London Kensington Academy. This type of architecture is depicted by short pitch steeped roofs with running detail and conical towers usually located on one exterior side. This building now offers guided tours and was admitted to the Oklahoma Historical Society in 1970.

Overholser was motivated to create and build new structures in the Oklahoma City area, not just the mansion, and many of these structures prompted growth and attraction to Oklahoma City. His perspective revolved around attraction of entertainment, as well as, trade commerce. Overholser built the Overholser Opera House and Overholser Theater in the late 1890s and this type of development brought in a style and charismatic most likely unfamiliar to the general population at the type. This brought in a new interest to the city and his involvement with the Oklahoma City railroad increased trade involvements in a larger proportion creating ties to Tulsa, and this led trade continued through Kansas and Missouri.
