Proctor School of Education

Something that can always be counted on in Freelon’s work is his modernistic works. When he was asked to redesign an outdated Education School building at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, he put up so much more than four walls to house offices and classrooms. He designed a beautiful statement piece that represents the future, and the generations of students to come through those halls. The Proctor Building has a large open floorplan in the center of the building as a constant reminder to all the future educators to maintain open minds and constantly be ready to teach and to learn. Much larger than its predecessor, the building not only has spaces for classrooms and faculty offices, it also has a variety of student lounges and places for students to gather and collaborate. The glass walls are cleverly designed to efficiently use natural lighting during the day and reduce electric waste.
