The Gateway Arch was designed by Eero Saarien in 1947. The Arch is 630 feet tall and stands as the tallest memorial in the U.S. and is also considered the tallest stainless steel monument in the world. There are three different ways you can travel up the arch. 1) two sets of emergency stairs. 2) a 12 passenger elevator. 3) a tram (one in each leg of the arch). I visited the arch while on a mission trip to St. Louis. I enjoyed visiting the Museum of Westward Expansion in the visitor center located directly under the arch. In the museum I was able to watch films that talked about how the arch was constructed.
