SOM Architecture designed the Chicago Civic Center in 1965. It is also known as the Daley center, and has received multiple awards such as the Architectural Award of Excellence (1966) and the Design Excellence Award: Honor Award (1966). The idea behind this building was that of a public art, and SOM went as far as to hire Pablo Picasso to make a sculpture for it. This being one of the many sites that have accompanied art work from others added in. Although it was an art piece for the passing public, it was also the home for court rooms, office space and law libraries. All of these things were encased in the buildings unique steel/glass figure, to bring to life an artistic modern building.
