Cadet Chapel

The Cadet Chapel of the U.S. Air Force Academy campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado is another example of the very modern design of SOM Architecture. Built in 1963 it was definitely a modern building for the time. It consist of 17 glass/aluminum spires, each of which contains 100 tetrahedrons. This building was one task and that was to contain three separate individual chapels. The protestnt Chapel contains 900 seats, the Catholic Chapel contains 500 seats and the Jewish Chapel contains 100 seats, totaling up to 1500 seats. This building also received several awards such as the Silver Medal of Honor: Design and Craftsmanship award (1965) and the 25 Year Award (1996). Compared to all of the other buildings present at the academy the Chapel really sticks out and adds a bit of flare to the otherwise standard buildings present.CCHAPL Chapel Chapell Chhapel
