Riddaren

The Riddaren is an office/residential building in Stockholm, Sweden that was designed by 3XN and completed in 2014. The goal of the design was actually to revitalize old architectural styles that are characteristic of the surrounding space.  The building combines elements of neo-classicism and  national romanticism and borrowed the pitched roof and the fire-resistant gable from surrounding buildings. The facade has mouldings of steel with reliefs of dark colors to create a sharp distinction between the floors of the structure while incorporating transparent patterns. The facade and roof are built with oxidized brass while emphasizing light-colored woods on the frame. INterestingly, the Riddaren is actually a remodeled structure of previous version of the building.  The previous version occupied the same space before it was torn down and this new building was erected.
