Bizzel Library

I am going to talk about a building that has influence positively my perspective of American architecture and my everyday life. When I encounter the University of Oklahoma largest library, Bizzell, my first reaction was just: Wahoo! Indeed, this place changed the way I saw libraries in many ways.

When I saw the exterior design, the first image that came in my mind was a museum. I felt like the design of the library was very an interesting old style. I need to precise that I that time did not have any architectural knowledge. However, thanks to my architecture class, I know that it’s a gothic designed building. The first thing that attracted me was the height of the windows: they are long and so beautiful!! I love to be lighten places because they bring joy to my life. Therefore, you can imagine how happy I saw it.

Moreover, I love this place because, it is the building on campus where I can study and relaxed. From where I am from, Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa, Libraries are regular places where you go just to study nothing else! However, there, there is studying and relaxing areas, where you can get delicious Frappuccino Starbucks drinks!!

Finally, I believe that the most beautiful feature of this building is the Great Reading Room. This quiet place that I have called the “library Church” impressed me a lot. Entering there made me feel like in a spiritual world. This long building has ribbed ceiling similar to my county’s catholic churches. Based on the design of the room I conclude that it is a peaceful place and I was indeed right! Thus, if you are looking for a very quiet place to study, don’t hesitate, go there!
