The Selwyn School founded in 1957 is a coed college prep school in Denton, Texas. The school covers PK – 12th grade and has an enrollment of roughly 300 students. In the 1960’s O’Neil Ford was commissioned to design several buildings and the master plan of the campus. In 2012 the main building of the campus burned down in a fire, that was later determined to be arson.

Located in Kerrville, TX, the Museum of Western Art was designed by O’Neil Ford. The exterior of the museum resembles that of a forested hacienda . The art in the museum focusses on Native Americans, Cowboys, pioneers, ranchers and law-enforcement officers.

An example of Texas Modernism, the Turtle Creek Park Home was designed by O’Neil Ford and Arch Swank in 1939.  Built on the top of the hill in Turtle Creek, the house has a terrific view of the forested area around the creek. all of the house’s three bedrooms are in the tree tops and offer views of three acres of forest.

Walker Tower

Walker Tower is one of the residence halls that incoming freshmen can live in. Walker Tower represented a time of transition for me. I was learning to be on my own and not having to rely on my parents. Living in and eventually moving out of Walker marked the end of the beginning of my life as an adult. Walker Tower taught me that I have what it takes to be my own person and that I can be on my own and still function.

Cinderella’s Castle Walt Disney World

Cinderella’s Castle not to be confused with Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disney Land, was completed in 1971. The castle is located in the Fantasy Land portion of Magic Kingdom . The chief designer of the castle was Herbert Ryman, who also designed Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disney Land. In the upper levels of the castle there is a suite that was intended to serve as an apartment for Walt Disney and his family when they were visiting Florida. When Walt died years before the park opened, the apartment was left unfinished. In 2007 the suite was finished and an overnight stay was awarded to a random guest.

As someone who visits Disney World regularly, I never get tired of walking through Main Street USA and coming up to the castle. Every time I see the castle I am transported back to when I was six, looking at the castle for the very first time. I personally believe that Cinderella’s Castle helps Disney be the “Happiest Place on Earth”.

Gateway Arch

The Gateway Arch was designed by Eero Saarien in 1947. The Arch is 630 feet tall and stands as the tallest memorial in the U.S. and is also considered the tallest stainless steel monument in the world. There are three different ways you can travel up the arch. 1) two sets of emergency stairs. 2) a 12 passenger elevator. 3) a tram (one in each leg of the arch). I visited the arch while on a mission trip to St. Louis. I enjoyed visiting the Museum of Westward Expansion in the visitor center located directly under the arch. In the museum I was able to watch films that talked about how the arch was constructed.

Yankee Stadium

“New” Yankee Stadium replaced the original Yankee Stadium in 2009. The stadium is home to one of the most iconic teams in all of Major League Baseball the New York Yankees. The stadium also severs as the home for the major league soccer team New York City FC. I was able to attend a game at Yankee Stadium two summers ago, and it was a dream come true. I have been a Yankee fan for as long as I can remember so being able to see my hero Derek Jeter take the field in his home stadium was indescribable.
