Sugar Land Town Center

The town hall of my hometown in Sugar Land, Texas, 15 minutes southwest of Houston.  The city got its name from the Imperial Sugar Company that used to call it home.  This building sits in the center of a widely popular shopping and dining area.  It is used to host many events and bring the community together.  The building itself is not very old, in fact, I still remember when the location was an empty grass field next to the freeway.  Now it is truly the center of attention.

The reason I chose it, is it reminds me of where I came from.  It’s a mile marker in a sense in that when you see it, you know you’re almost home.  Before this building was built, the city wasn’t really anything special.  But as the Houston energy sector grew, people continued to flock to Houston in droves to work for the giant oil companies.  These families wanted a place far enough from the bustle of 3 million Houstonians but still close enough to the amenities they enjoy.  Sugar Land spent millions to become that place.
