Darul Aman Palace (The King’s Palace)/Russian Officer Club

The Darul Aman Palace is also known as the “King’s Palace” was built in the 1920’s by King Amanullah Khan. King Amanullah built the place to help modernize Kabul, Afghanistan. The palace was supposed to become the center of Afghanistan’s new capital.  The palace was built by a group of Europeans architects using the neoclassical style.

I couldn’t find too much information on the Russian Officer club but it was built by the Soviets when they occupied Kabul in the late 1970’s. The officers club was built on top of a large mountain and it overlooks the King’s palace.  I’m unsure what style the building is but it has three stories inside. The kitchen/pantry is on the bottom, the middle floor was used as a lounge area, and the top floor had beds.

Last time I saw the buildings they were both in ruin but I know there have been plans to restore both buildings. I hope they are able to restore both of these beautiful buildings.
