Seattle Art Museum

The Seattle Art Museum has taken many places and buildings over the long history of the establishment. When it was moved to its downtown location the building was designed and built by Robert Venturi in 1991. The building was later updated and gained an addition in 2007 but the original building was a work of Venturi. The large sandstone walls tower over the street corner and the larger than life engraved stone labels the museum with a grand feeling and regal air to the building. Again, Venturi’s style is seen here in the absence of modern style (which is common for art museums) and rather the ornate and intricate detailed work that has a life of its own, and a style only Venturi himself can create.
