Designed by O’Neil Ford, the Tower of the Americas was built in 1968. the tower was built as the theme structure of the 68′ World’s Fair. The tower was the tallest observation tower in the United States until 1996 when the Las Vegas Stratosphere Tower was built. It stands as the tallest building in San Antonio, and the 27th tallest in Texas.
I’ve always been curious and fascinated with the architecture and planning of buildings made for worldwide events, such as the worlds fair or olympics. I never realized that Texas had hosted a worlds fair and the striking design and size makes quite a statement.
