The Bridge House was the original design for the Eameses’ home. This design was created in 1945 as Case Study House No. 8, however the design used pre-fabricated materials ordered and due to war driven shortages the steel was not available until 1948. By this time Charles and Ray had selected a different location for the project and felt that the site needed a different design. While it was never built the sketch reveal its simplicity design that is very reminiscent of the Eames House. What makes this design unique is the pillar like structure under the house that creates juxtaposition with the land below.
Imagining that structure being built in todays time compared to 70 years ago would be interesting seeing the comparison.
