The Dean House

The Dean House was built in 1936 for Carlton M. Dean a chemical engineer working with Monsanto.  The home was designed by Charles Eames. Located in a neighborhood filled with traditional architecture, this home stood out from the rest because of its more modern and simplistic design.  Today it looks even more modern, because the brick of the home has been painted white.  The white paint has obscured the traditional detailing of the brickwork including the quoining at the corner and the string course between the floors making the building appear less traditional than its original design.  This is one of Eames’ earliest home designs. imgres-4 imgres-3
