Tenley/Friendship Library

One of Freelon’s most characteristic projects are his libraries. Another of his libraries is the Tenley Friendship library. The library is a collaborative space, designed around the singular concept of unity and functioning as a team. The long slats are stacked together, looking almost as people working in harmony. The Library has multiple stories and frequently employs the use of glass dividers to keep a feeling of openness throughout the library, even though it is divided into rooms. The library was opened in the District of Columbia only a few years ago, in 2011, however, it has already been able to host many great events for kids and adults. It was inspired by overlays of various buildings in the surrounding area of Tenleytown and Washington DC. Its design hopes to reflect the traditional culture of the Tenley area, while still adding modern elements.TFL-1 TFL-2 TFL-3
