One of my favorite places to go as a child was the library, and one of my favorite libraries is the Los Angeles public library. The architecture of the exterior is simple yet beautiful and seems like a sanctuary amongst the towers of skyscrapers surrounding it of downtown LA. However, the true beauty of this library comes from the inside. There are two sides of the library interior built in different styles. On one side, you are in the midst of beautiful modern architecture. The high ceilings that span four stories of escalators give the illusion that you are inside a skyscraper, one of the most iconic symbols of Los Angeles. The walls are lined with windows which allows the natural light of southern California to stream in and illuminate the library during the day, and a stunning view of the stars at night. The other side goes the opposite way in time and furthers the image of a sanctuary. The ceilings are decorated with spectacular murals and huge domes that are reminiscent of the Sistine chapel. The Los Angeles library is not only a wonderful place to discover almost every book you would want, the architecture of both the outside and the interior make the library a perfect example of Southern California architecture.
