Carson Engineering Building

I’ve never had a class in this building before this semester, and frankly, I’ve never really paid it much thought even though I worked in the Starbucks directly across from it for 4 years.

Really, the first time I paid much attention to was when I saw the staircase.  It’s simply magnificent.  As soon as I saw it, the beauty of the whole building, inside and out, became apparent to me.  I love how when walking up the staircase, which looks like something 2001: A Space Odyssey, it just opens up to the blue sky (it’s hard to get a good photo of it because of the lighting.  You just have to experience in yourself).

Something I didn’t notice until I really began looking is the theme that runs throughout it.  There’s a sort of curved square shape that is  present on the outside and inside the building.  I didn’t get a photo of it, but the design is even in the polished concrete floors!

It’s so fascinating to me how just one feature of a building can open up a whole new way of perceiving it.
